OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Role of Occupational Therapist at ORKIDSOCCUPATIONAL THERAPY services are provided one on one based on an individualized assessment and treatment plan. The areas that are assessed and may require an intervention include:
• Gross Motor Skills: Balance & Equilibrium (clumsiness, bumping), Eye Hand Coordination, Motor Planning (Cycling, Jumping, Running, Squatting, Skipping, Hanging)
• Fine Motor Skills: Hand Functions & Manipulation Skills (cupping hand; gripping small objects like beads, pencil, crayon, blocks, puzzle pieces, small toy parts)
• Oral Motor Skills: chewing, cutting food, swallowing, sucking, blowing, tongue movements, oral hygiene (drooling, spitting)
• Graphomotor Skills: colouring skills (colouring within a boundary), copying skills (copying from blackboard to notebook), visuo motor integration.
Handwriting Skills: letter formation, placing letters on paper, spacing between words, writing within the lines, pressure during writing, handwriting legibility
• Self Help Skills: Dressing Skills (buttoning, unbuttoning, zipping, velcro), donning and doffing shoes, simple knotting.
• Play Skills: Ball skills (catching and throwing a ball, aiming, bouncing a ball, solitary play, group play)
• Cognitive Perceptual Skills: Attention & Concentration; visuo spatial skills, left right discrimination, body scheme.
• Personal Social Skills: Hyper/Hypo responsiveness to sensory stimuli like touch, light, sound, movement, gravity, Hyperactivity, aggression, odd behaviours, self destructive, self absorption, Independent and group work at school, In-seat behaviour (Calming, sitting down for table top work and/or board games).
• Communication Skills: tongue movements, cheek muscles strengthening, suck swallow breathe.
• Odd behaviours (Sensory Integrative problems): banging, hitting, spitting, temper-tantrums, motor mannerisms,
